"Midgard? My, that is a strange name for a place..."

[It seems that the Flux Gate has found yet another victim, though this one seems to be curious as much as frightened about the whole affair. Giselle has managed to find a stick somewhere along the way to clip her hair up into a loose knot, but it only manages to make her look more swamped by the jumpsuit she has been given. She clutches a book in her arms protectively, fingers curled around as best she can to try and keep them out of the cold.]

"I do wish that they'd given me some clearer instructions... then again, they did seem very distracted."

[She turns, scanning the buildings once again, then a rustle from the side of the road catches her attention. Giselle spins, eyes widening, as a rat briefly appears from the shadow of a doorway. Immediately, her face lights up and she walks over to the rat, bending at the waist to talk almost conspiratorially.]

"I don't suppose that you can help me, can you? I'm looking for Midgard, only I don't know this place and I'm awfully afraid that I'm going to get lost. You don't happen to know where it is, do you?"

[The rat squeaks, scratches with its claws, and then disappears off into the  darkness. Giselle straightens up, looking more than a little surprised.]

"Well, that wasn't really what I asked, but..." [She raises her voice to call after the rat.] "Thank you anyway!"

[A brief pause. She bites her lip uncertainly and looks round the road once again. Everything is so strange here, not open like Andalasia was but not all in neat rows like New York either. Another gust of wind produces a shiver.] "Oh my, it is cold here. I really do need to find this place soon..."

((OoC: Well, here's to hoping that I'm doing things right. ^.^ It's an honour to be among you guys.))

Apr. 5th, 2010 07:49 pm (UTC)
Were you just talking to a rat?

((Hello~ Have a tiny grumpy demon to, uh, welcome you. >>; ))
Apr. 5th, 2010 07:58 pm (UTC)
[Giselle turns quickly, a wide smile spreading across her face. She doesn't bat an eyelid at the, shall we say, unusual appearance of the person before her. After all, she has indeed just been talking to a rat.]

"Why, of course. They can be very helpful, you know. Although I don't think that the ones here are used to being spoken to..."

[For a moment, Giselle looks... uncertain. Her expression cannot quite be called a frown, but it is slightly pouty. Then the moment is gone.]

"I say, you don't happen to know where the place called Midgard is, do you? The people before tried to give me directions, but I think I must have not understood them properly or something because I can't seem to find it anywhere."
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:03 pm (UTC)
... I don't think the rats here talk.

*he folds his arms, arching his eyebrows at her request* Why should you expect me to bother if you couldn't figure it out before?
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:14 pm (UTC)
"Sometimes I don't think that everyone understands them. But they do talk. That one just... wasn't very helpful."

[Giselle speaks as if she is saying the most obvious thing in the world. After all, if no-one speaks to the rats then one can't really expect them to be able to reply nicely. She should probably come back and try again when she has some bread or something to be able to offer them, and get them to stay longer. At the demon's response to her question, though, her face falls.]

"Well, it's always nice to be nice to people, you know. Sometimes strangers are people just waiting to be friends with you."
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:18 pm (UTC)
Great. You're one of those humans.
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:24 pm (UTC)
"What do you mean? You sound almost as if you don't want people to be friendly, and if everyone did that then there would be no-one happy in the world."

[Giselle seems to have forgotten both the cold and the fact that she was looking for the mysterious Midgard building. She looks a little saddened on behalf of the person that she is talking with.]

"Maybe someone just needs to be nicer to you. Is there anything that I can do to help you feel better?"
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:28 pm (UTC)
There's no fun in being friendly, unless you plan on turning around and stabbing the person in the back.

But maybe you have a point. Can you cook?
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:34 pm (UTC)
[Giselle looks as if she's not sure whether he is joking or not. She has had enough time in New York to stop thinking that everything is perfectly literal, but as a result occasionally just manages to confuse herself more. After a moment she decides that he must be, and breaks into a smile again with a brief giggle.]

"Why, of course I can! I'm afraid that I don't have any food with me just at the moment, but I'm sure that if you give me a little while then I can find something."

[Something dawns.]

"Oh! I haven't even said my name!" [Giselle puts one hand to her mouth, her eyes going wide in surprise.] "I'm Giselle. It's very nice to meet you."

((OoC: I love your character already. ^^))
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:39 pm (UTC)
Laharl, King of the Netherworld.

*no, he's not going to say it's nice to meet you*

((I love how Giselle is dealing with him lol))
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:46 pm (UTC)
[Her eyes go wide.]

"Oh my, I've never met a King before. Only a Prince."

[She isn't sure whether or not she should curtsey. Seeing as he isn't wearing a crown, probably not.]

"I don't think I've ever heard of the Underworld, though. Is that somewhere near New York?"

((OoC: It's a fun start, I must say.))
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:50 pm (UTC)
Well, you might be able to get there if you died in New York.

You've heard of Hell, right?
Apr. 5th, 2010 08:57 pm (UTC)
[She lowers her voice, as if there is someone who might overhear and take offence. Her eyes are still wide and innocent, and though she speaks more seriously her tone could not quite be described as reproachful.]

"Yes, I have heard of that term before."

[Not everyone in New York was exactly welcoming. Asking Robert where Hell was and why she should go there had led to quite a long explanation.]

"It's not really a very nice thing to say to someone, though." [She places one finger against her lips for a moment in thought.] "Unless it means something else here, which I suppose it could but which doesn't seem all that likely somehow..."
Apr. 5th, 2010 09:02 pm (UTC)
It's a shitty place for humans, if that's what you're getting at. But it's where I rule.
Apr. 5th, 2010 09:08 pm (UTC)
"Oh, but I thought that Robert said..."

[She trails off uncertainly, and a little unhappily. Robert had been wrong about other things before now, but in general when it came to life he had known much more about how things worked than Giselle. It was more as if he had forgotten some things. After an instant's hesitation, however, she pulls herself back together even if her smile is not quite as broad as it usually seems to be.]

"Still, every new place is a new opportunity, I suppose. Should I call you Your Majesty, or is there another title that you prefer to use? I mean, I know that Edward preferred people using his name, but I suppose that was different as he wanted me to marry him, so I probably ought to check."
Apr. 5th, 2010 09:19 pm (UTC)
*smirking like anything now. the best he gets from any of his vassals is "Prince." maybe she's not so bad.*

"Your Majesty" or "King Laharl" are both fine.
Apr. 5th, 2010 09:27 pm (UTC)
"There, isn't it much nicer when you smile?"

[Part of Giselle wonders whether she's missing something, but apparently she wasn't in New York for quite that long.]

"I mean, isn't it much nicer, Your Majesty?"

[Both arms wrap protectively around her book once again, hugging it to her chest. She seems much happier now that she's found somebody who's royalty, because it always has seemed strange to her that there weren't any in New York. Of course, just being royalty isn't as important as acting like it, but all the same it is sort of comforting.]
Apr. 5th, 2010 09:56 pm (UTC)

*he'll humor her a little, he likes being called by the proper title.*

You're looking for Midgard, right?
Apr. 5th, 2010 10:05 pm (UTC)
"Midgard? Oh! Oh, yes!"

[The conversation has gotten a little away from Giselle by this point, but she suddenly remembers that she was looking for a place called Midgard originally. Today feels as if it's been rather long already, but that's probably what happens when you get pulled through a magic portal again. This time, so far at least, she doesn't even have a couch to sleep on, and this certainly doesn't look like the sort of place she can find a hollow tree or something of that ilk.]

"I think it's supposed to be some sort of house or apartment block, but I can't find any sort of building that I recognise around here. You don't happen to know where it is, do you, Your Majesty?"
Apr. 5th, 2010 10:11 pm (UTC)
You've really got cotton for brains, don't you?

I live there, for now, so I might as well show you if you're going to be cooking for me.
Apr. 5th, 2010 10:25 pm (UTC)
[Now Giselle manages to look a little confused for an entirely different reason.]

"But it's been shown that the human brain is made of cells, just like any other part of the body, although the cells are different of course. It wouldn't be possible to make a human brain out of cotton wool."

[The book currently in her arms is looking a little dog-eared, if the truth be told. She has clearly read it almost to death, although her rather rough arrival to this place has lost most of the bookmarks she had in place. Despite her discovery of the New York Public Library, it has not been usurped as her favourite, and has provided many a seed for a whole string of reading to find out what some chapter or another is talking about. Biology is probably one such situation.]

"Oh, certainly. Thank you so much. It'll be the least that I can do to repay you."

((OoC: Kinda like keeping a pet...))
Apr. 5th, 2010 10:29 pm (UTC)
*He's just. going to give you this look. and then turn towards the apartments.*

Whatever. Just come on. And don't thank me.
Apr. 5th, 2010 10:38 pm (UTC)
[Giselle has to admit that the conversation did take quite a roundabout direction to actually find out where she is supposed to be staying for a while, but she's always maintained that it's nice to meet new people. And King Laharl does seem to be at least a little bit happier now than when she first met him, which is always a good thing.]

"Oh, okay then. I'll be right there."

((OoC: Showing my newbishness... how do I have two threads on the same post at the same time?))
Apr. 5th, 2010 11:05 pm (UTC)
*he starts walking for Midgard, not about to wait*

((Up to you how to handle it! Sometimes you can just take the order they come as chronological... Sometimes you can manage to shift locations a little... Sometimes there's just no way to make them all fit in a neat chronological order and you just kind of go with five people all managing to show you to your apartment. :D;))
Apr. 5th, 2010 11:11 pm (UTC)
"Oops!" [It's probably pretty apparent that Giselle hadn't expected King Laharl to leave that abruptly. She turns to follow him, not quite managing her usual light step in the heavy boots that she has been given.]

"I must say, I think this is colder than any winter I ever remember, although I have heard of some very cold ones from the geese that used to migrate south for the winter. Still, cold weather just makes hot cocoa by the fire seem even better, really."

[Yes, she really does see the good side in everything. No, she isn't on drugs. But she has been asked before now.]

((OoC: Wow, sounds like a party. ^^ Thanks. Sorry about the random there...))
Apr. 5th, 2010 11:19 pm (UTC)
*If he hadn't had Flonne for a vassal, he probably wouldn't know how to deal with this woman. As it is, he's used to airheads. At least she's not saying she talks to flowers or something.*

I thought New York had pretty cold winters, by Earth standards.
